Essential WordPress Themes for Construction Companies

Most lists of construction WordPress themes are built from demos: niche themes with a hard hat in the header and a price tag from a theme marketplace. We looked at what contractor sites actually run. The answer is general-purpose themes and page builders, led by Hello Elementor, Divi and Astra. The construction-specific themes most lists promote barely appear.

How we judged them

We read the theme from every WordPress contractor homepage in our October 2026 crawl and kept themes that passed three tests.

Real usage

On at least 6 contractor sites in our crawl, child themes counted with their parent.

Maintained

Updated in the last 12 months, checked October 2026.

Works with your tools

Supports a page builder or the block editor and common form plugins.

Niche themes labeled

Construction-specific themes are listed separately, marked as uncommon in the data.

Checked at the source

Prices, ratings and update dates from WordPress.org, ThemeForest or the vendor, October 2026.

Reviewed by hand, 20261019. Nobody pays for a place on this list.

We analyzed 100 local searches across 25 US metros and four contractor types, 1,034 contractor websites (965 crawled) and 457 Google Business Profiles, October 2026. Among the sites where we could identify the platform, WordPress runs 80%; next are Wix 9%, GoDaddy 3%, Webflow 2%, HubSpot 1% and Homefiniti 1%. So for most contractors the theme question is a real one.

WordPress runs most contractor websites. Share of 681 contractor websites where the platform could be identified

This page lists the themes that show up most on those WordPress sites, what each costs and suits, and what to check before you pick one. One thing first: a theme is the frame, not the house. The pages, the content and the speed of what you build on top decide how a site performs in search.

How we picked

A theme made the main list if it met three tests:

  • Used by at least 6 contractor sites in our crawl. We read the theme name from each WordPress homepage and counted child themes with their parent (divi-child counts as Divi).
  • Updated in the last 12 months, checked on WordPress.org, ThemeForest or the vendor’s site in October 2026.
  • Works with a page builder or the block editor and common contact form plugins.

Ten themes passed. The long tail is long: 211 other themes appear on just one site each. We add three construction-specific themes in a separate section, labeled, because each appears on one site in our sample at most.

About the numbers

  • Site counts: our crawl of contractor homepages, October 2026, with child themes grouped by hand.
  • Prices, sales, ratings and update dates: each theme’s WordPress.org, ThemeForest or vendor page, checked October 2026. Prices change.
  • Demo speed scores: one PageSpeed Insights mobile run on the theme’s public demo, October 2026. A demo is not your site, and scores vary from run to run.

The themes contractor sites actually use

Hello Elementor (101 sites)

A blank starter theme from Elementor, built to do almost nothing on its own so the Elementor page builder can do the design. Because it’s built specifically for Elementor, a contractor site running Hello is almost always an Elementor site. The theme is free on WordPress.org, with more than 1 million active installs and a 4.2 rating from 129 reviews; Elementor Pro is sold separately. It was last updated August 25, 2026. Its own demo scored 100 on a mobile PageSpeed test, but that demo is a nearly empty page. Your speed will depend on what gets built in Elementor on top of it.

Divi (60 sites)

Elegant Themes’ theme and visual builder in one. As of October 2026 it costs $89 a year or $249 once for lifetime access, for unlimited sites, with a 30-day refund. That pricing makes it popular with designers who build many small-business sites. Elegant Themes offers a free construction company layout pack; the home page of that layout scored 68 on a mobile PageSpeed test of its demo. Divi 5, which Elegant Themes says was rebuilt with a focus on performance, is now available. Divi suits owners who want to edit pages visually themselves.

Astra (41 sites)

A light, general-purpose theme from Brainstorm Force that works with the block editor and with page builders such as Elementor, Beaver Builder and Spectra. Free on WordPress.org with more than 1 million active installs and a 4.9 rating from more than 6,500 reviews; Astra Pro adds paid features. Its listing says schema markup is built in. It was updated October 15, 2026, and its demo scored 92 on a mobile PageSpeed test. Astra also publishes construction company starter templates, so a contractor can start from a ready layout without a niche theme.

Avada (21 sites)

A long-running multipurpose theme from ThemeFusion on ThemeForest: $69 for a regular license, more than 1,070,000 sales and a 4.78 rating from about 26,600 reviews (October 2026). It comes with its own Live Visual Builder and says it has no dependency on third-party page builders. Its Testimonials element includes schema-ready star ratings. Avada lists more than 110 prebuilt websites, but none is labeled construction. Last updated September 30, 2026. We couldn’t run a fair speed test on its demo because ThemeForest wraps it in a preview frame. Choose it if your designer already knows it well.

Beaver Builder Theme (17 sites)

The companion theme to the Beaver Builder page builder. It isn’t sold on its own: it’s included with every Beaver Builder plan, from $89 a year for one site to $546 a year for unlimited sites (as of October 2026). It appears mostly on sites built by agencies and freelancers who standardize on Beaver Builder. Beaver Builder’s general demo, which isn’t a construction layout, scored 53 on a mobile PageSpeed test. If your current site runs on it, there is little reason to switch theme; fix the content and speed first.

Enfold (11 sites)

A long-running multipurpose theme from Kriesi on ThemeForest: $59 for a regular license, about 272,000 sales and a 4.79 rating (October 2026). It uses its own drag-and-drop Avia Layout Builder. ThemeForest lists the item as updated October 6, 2026, though the newest changelog entry we saw is dated October 2025, so check the version before buying. There’s no construction demo. Its demo redirects, so we couldn’t speed-test it.

Salient (9 sites)

A design-led multipurpose theme from ThemeNectar: $60 for a regular license, about 171,800 sales and a 4.82 rating from about 6,900 reviews (October 2026). It uses a heavily customized version of the WPBakery page builder. It was updated October 19, 2026. No construction demo is named. Salient suits a contractor who wants a polished, design-led look; keep an eye on image sizes.

GeneratePress (7 sites)

The speed pick. Its WordPress.org listing says a fresh install adds less than 10kb (gzipped) to the page, and its demo scored 100 on a mobile PageSpeed test. Free, with a paid GP Premium add-on; more than 500,000 active installs and a 4.9 rating from 1,427 reviews. It works with the block editor and with page builders including Elementor and Beaver Builder. Last updated December 1, 2025, inside our 12-month window.

Impreza (7 sites)

A multipurpose theme from UpSolution on ThemeForest: $69 for a regular license, about 120,500 sales and a 4.88 rating from about 2,600 reviews (October 2026). It has its own visual drag-and-drop builder and also supports a modified WPBakery. Last updated September 16, 2026. We didn’t speed-test its demo. Like Avada and Enfold, it’s a theme you’ll usually inherit from whoever built your site rather than pick fresh.

Kadence (6 sites)

A lightweight theme with a drag-and-drop header and footer builder and a library of starter templates. Free on WordPress.org with a paid Kadence Pro; more than 500,000 active installs and a 4.9 rating from 455 reviews. It was updated July 24, 2026, and its demo scored 100 on a mobile PageSpeed test. It pairs well with the block editor, so you can build a fast site without a separate page builder.

Construction-specific themes worth a look

Not common in our data. These are the kind of themes most “best construction theme” lists lead with. Each one appears on one contractor site in our sample. They can still be a reasonable choice if you want a construction layout out of the box and are happy to swap the demo content for your own projects.

  • BuildPress: ProteusThemes, ThemeForest, $99 regular license, about 7,800 sales, 4.60 from 466 reviews. Integrated drag-and-drop builder, Elementor compatible, and a bundled portfolio grid for showing projects. Tagged for contractors, renovation and landscaping.
  • RenoWise: BoldThemes, ThemeForest, $69, about 1,600 sales, 4.50 from 34 reviews. Nine demos for electricians, handymen, flooring, roofing, carpenters and general contractors, plus a free cost calculator plugin. Last updated June 29, 2026.
  • Kortez Construction: Free on WordPress.org. Works with the block editor and Elementor. Fewer than 100 active installs and no reviews yet, last updated March 20, 2026. Its demo scored 87 on a mobile PageSpeed test.

A construction look is the easy part. Real project photos, a page per service and a page per area you serve will do more for you than a hard-hat header.

What to check before you pick a theme

Speed is where contractor sites fall down. From the same study: contractor homepages are slow on mobile, with a median Lighthouse performance score of 55/100 and a median lab Largest Contentful Paint of 10.9s (simulated slow mobile); only 4% score 90+. Median homepage weight is 4.1 MB, and 41% are over 5 MB. Before you commit to a theme, check these:

  • Speed on mobile. Run the theme’s demo, or better a test page with your own photos, through PageSpeed Insights on the mobile setting. Aim for a page that loads its main image fast on a phone.
  • Page weight. Sliders, video backgrounds and full-size project photos are what push pages past 5 MB. Compress photos and upload them as WebP.
  • Schema support. 46% of contractor websites have LocalBusiness structured data. Check whether the theme or your SEO plugin adds it, and that it carries your real name, address and phone.
  • Mobile menu and click-to-call. Open the demo on your phone. The phone number should be one tap away, and the menu should show your services without hunting.
  • Form plugin. Make sure your quote form plugin works with the theme and the builder, and that submissions reach your inbox.

A theme won’t fix rankings. In our study, map-pack contractors tended to have more reviews and were more likely to have location pages, while site features like click-to-call links and LocalBusiness schema showed no measurable ranking edge. Our technical SEO guide for construction covers the rest, our study of 965 construction websites shows the most common gaps, and these high-converting construction websites show what a finished site can look like.

FAQs

What is the best WordPress theme for a construction company?

There’s no single best, but the most used on contractor sites in our crawl are Hello Elementor (101 sites), Divi (60) and Astra (41). Pick the one your designer knows, then judge the result on speed and content.

Is WordPress good for contractor websites?

It’s the default. WordPress runs 80% of contractor sites where we could identify the platform. It’s flexible and widely supported, so you can change designers without rebuilding from scratch.

Are free construction themes OK?

Yes, if they’re maintained. Check the last update date and the reviews on WordPress.org, and test the demo on mobile. A free theme with no updates in a year is a risk; a free general theme like Astra, GeneratePress or Kadence is a safer start than a little-used niche one.
